On November 10, Turkish Michiganders came together to commemorate Mustafa Kemal Atatürk on the 81st anniversary of his passing. Our guests read the recent column by Yılmaz Özdil, followed by a short video on Atatürk’s legacy. The program continued with short parts of Emre Kongar’s reiteration of the simplified version of Nutuk. Everyone was emotional throughout the program and appreciated the over an hour long time dedicated solely to Atatürk.

During the event, new members of the Turkish community, İlker and Merve Sahin introduced themselves, they were also lucky to win the book raffle on their first year. We also had two student volunteers (Emre and Zeynep Persinger) fulfilled their volunteer work by greeting the guests and helping organize the event. After the Atatürk program, guests had wonderful conversations accompanied with börek, cake, and plenty of Turkish tea.

As TACAM family, we are happy with the large turnout, especially children and youth in the last few years. We are more hopeful about he future of our youth carrying the torch of understanding and following the principles of Atatürk.
