Republic Day Proclamations

On October 29, along with our friends, family, and entire Turkish nation, Turkish American Michiganders are celebrating the 96th Anniversary of the Republic of Turkey. Although, the members of the Turkish American community will formally celebrate the occasion at the Republic Ball organized by TACAM in Regency Manor & Banquet Center on Saturday, November 2, 2019, we would like to take this opportunity to share this important day with people who are unable to join us but following us diligently.

Today marks a day of pride and joy for the Turkish nation. When many civilized nations of today were being ruled by autocracies or were not even independent, Turks under the vision of our founder Mustafa Kemal Atatürk were able to establish a modern nation in which the sovereignty belonged to the citizens; citizens who can elect and be elected. Coupled with secularism, a nation that respected the rule of law, a nation admired by all other nations were established.

We, Turkish American Michiganders, are proud of these accomplishments almost a century ago, and we see our Turkish heritage as an important asset of the American society. TACAM has been working with public officers to announce and celebrate the anniversary with the friends of Turkey in Michigan. Thanks to these efforts, we are pleased to announce that:
– Hon. Senator Debbie Stebanow along with
– Mayor Mike Duggan of Detroit,
– Mayor Christopher Taylor of Ann Arbor,
– Mayor Richard E. Ziegler of Wixom,
– Mayor Beth Bashert of Ypsilanti,
– Mayor Rosalynn Bliss of Grand Rapids, and
– Mayor Mark Behnke of Battle Creek recently announced the recognition of October 29, 2019 as the Turkish Republic Day with their certificate of proclamations and a congressional recognition. Special thanks go to our Vice President Gokhan Ozalp and our outreach committee chair Tunc Kulaksiz for contacting these public officers and obtaining the proclamations.

TACAM is proud of the record number of proclamations and congressional recognition this year. TACAM’s efforts to obtain these proclamations and recognition dates back to 1980. For the entire list of proclamations and recognition obtained by TACAM, please visit:
