Sad News

We are deeply saddened with the news that long time TACAM member Yıldırım Selçuk Ülkü (93. Mar 16, 1927) passed away on July 13, 2020 at his home in Grosse Pointe Park. Funeral was held among the close family members on Wednesday July 15 in MI. He is survived by beloved wife Huriye Ulku, son Arif (Heather) Ulku, and four grandchildren James, Addie, Peter and Holly. He was predeceased by three brothers and one sister.

Selçuk immigrated from Turkey to the United States in 1955 for education purposes, and graduated with a Masters Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1957. He went back to Turkey in early 1960s, but decided to come back in 1964, and since then he was a Michigan resident. He worked with another valued civil engineer Nasut Uzman, and also helped TACAM in many ways.

Although he resided in Forth Lauderdale, FL during the winter months, where he was also associated with the Turkish American Association (FTAA) there, whenever he was in Michigan he always tried to attend TACAM activities, and was very enthusiastic about bringing his grand children to TACAM to introduce Turkish culture.

We extend our most sincere condolences to his family and friends.

May He Rest in Peace.

TACAM Board of Directors.
