Breakfast Fundraiser and IWD Celebration

Thank you to all who joined the THSC Breakfast Fundraiser and the celebration of International Women’s Day.

On Sunday, March 12, TACAM High School Chapter (THSC) has organized a breakfast fundraiser for the victims of the earthquake in Turkey coinciding with the International Women’s Day and “Embrace the Equity” theme spearheaded by our vice President Fatos Kocer. Presentations started with THSC students as young Turkish-American women:
– Ilayda Yeni, THSC President
– Meltem Peker, THSC Vice President
– Eda Gur, THSC Treasurer

This was followed by very engaging and inspirational presentations of our guest speakers:
– Eunkyung ‘Nana’ Oh: Let’s Love Ourselves
– Dr. Seda Saluk: Women’s Movement in Turkey: A Short History
– Roxana Tehrani: Women, Life, Freedom
– Dr. Svitlana Kheda: Women at War: Ukraine’s Perspective

The event also featured our dear Mickey Pek who shared her journey in writing her first book on Turkish cooking, “Mickey’s Turkish Cookbook: Turkish Food For The Western Kitchen,” available on Amazon.

The event is very well attended, more than 100 people joined the event, enjoyed the delicious food, and donated generously. We raised more than $3000 during the event, and additioanlly a very generous $3000 donation was presented by the Michigan chapter of the Korean American Women’s Association.

TACAM extends our sincere appreciation to all of those who attended and generously donated. We also applaud the current board of our high school chapter, and TACAM board members who worked diligently to make this amazing day happen.
