About the Board

Organization of the Board

The Executive Board of TACAM consists of several bodies:

  • Executive Officers (President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer) (2 year term)
  • Board of Directors (5 Directors) (2 year term)
  • Audit Committee (4 Members) (2 year term)
  • Board of Trustees (6 Members) (2 year term)

Under TACAM’s Constitution and Bylaws, each of these individual positions and bodies has certain duties and responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Executive Board

  • Represent the association of elect and give authority to one or several members of the association to do the same.
  • Keep books and records, for the financial matters of the association, preparing a budget proposal and submitting it at the annual meeting of the general membership.
  • Keep records and minutes of the meetings and files of the decisions reached by the board members.
  • Prepare a general report of the activities and submit it to the general assembly.
  • Implement the decisions reached by the general assembly.

The Executive Board meets regularly once a month, and your presence at these Board Meetings is required. As an Executive Board member, you will have the opportunity to support and help grow the Turkish American community throughout Michigan.

Positions and Their Responsibilities

President (1 President for 1 year term)

  • Act as team member on the Board
  • Vote on all issues
  • Represent TACAM and its members
  • Assist in determining TACAM policies and goals
  • Participate on committees, as necessary
  • Help implement decisions reached by membership and board
  • Attend Board MeetingsM
  • Assist in activities and projects
  • Ensure TACAM’s bylaws and articles of incorporation are followed
  • Solicit membership and contributions
  • Make financially responsible decisions
  • Must know Roberts Rules of Order
  • Lead Board of Directors
  • Communicate and deal with national and international organizations on behalf of TACAM
  • Communicate on Turkish political and cultural issues
  • Communicate with politicians
  • Be a spokesperson for TACAM
  • Create Agenda for each Board Meeting w/Secretary
  • Run Board Meetings

Vice President (1 Vice President for 1 year term)

  • Act as team member on the Board
  • Vote on all issues
  • Represent TACAM and its members
  • Assist in determining TACAM policies and goals
  • Participate on committees, as necessary
  • Help implement decisions reached by membership and board
  • Attend Board MeetingsM
  • Assist in activities and projects
  • Ensure TACAM’s bylaws and articles of incorporation are followed
  • Solicit membership and contributions
  • Make financially responsible decisions
  • Work and assist President with Responsibilities
  • Make sure web page is updated and all mailings, flyers, newsletters go out on time
  • Lead Nominations Committee
  • Help Treasurer with collection of monies
  • Taking over President’s responsibilities when President is unable to do so.

Treasurer (1 Treasurer for 1 year term)

  • Act as team member on the Board
  • Vote on all issues
  • Represent TACAM and its members
  • Assist in determining TACAM policies and goals
  • Participate on committees, as necessary
  • Help implement decisions reached by membership and board
  • Attend Board MeetingsM
  • Assist in activities and projects
  • Ensure TACAM’s bylaws and articles of incorporation are followed
  • Solicit membership and contributions
  • Make financially responsible decisions Responsible for all finances and financial records of the association
  • Prepare annual budget
  • Create monthly financial statements
  • Report on financials at each Board Meeting
  • Ensure timely payment of bills
  • Collect monies
  • Deposit and withdraw monies on behalf of association
  • Invoice uncollected funds
  • Review and reimburse expenses, as necessary
  • Keep track of paid membership and directory accuracy
  • Retrieve mail, as needed

Secretary (1 Secretary for 1 year term)

  • Act as team member on the Board
  • Vote on all issues
  • Represent TACAM and its members
  • Assist in determining TACAM policies and goals
  • Participate on committees, as necessary
  • Help implement decisions reached by membership and board
  • Attend Board Meetings
  • Assist in activities and projects
  • Ensure TACAM’s bylaws and articles of incorporation are followed
  • Solicit membership and contributions
  • Make financially responsible decisions
  • Takes meeting minutes at all Board Meetings
  • Create agenda with President
  • Create schedules for all board meetings
  • Send reminders, agenda and meeting minutes before each board meeting
  • Assist President with correspondence as needed
  • Retrieve voice mail messages
  • Maintain and organize all records

Directors (5 Directors for 1 year term)

  • Act as team member on the Board
  • Vote on all issues
  • Represent TACAM and its members
  • Assist in determining TACAM policies and goals
  • Actively participate on committees
  • Help implement decisions reached by membership and board
  • Attend Board Meetings
  • Assist in activities and projects
  • Support officers in their duties
  • Follow TACAM’s bylaws and articles of incorporation
  • Solicit membership and contributions
  • Make financially responsible decisions

Audit Committee (4 members)

The Audit Committee shall consist of four (4) members. Two elected by the General Assembly each year for a term of two (2) years.

  • Not less than twice a year, the Audit Committee reviews the books, records, and itemized expenditure lists of the association.
  • The Committee also checks to see that all expenditures are in compliance with the decisions of the general assembly and that all expenditures are within the limits of the budget approved by the general assembly.
  • This committee will check and control all financial matters of the organization and submit their findings in the form of a report to the general assembly.
  • The Executive Board will extend help to the Audit Committee in their task and endeavors.
  • Review Annual Budget
  • Review and approve Annual Financial Records
  • Attend Executive Board Meeting(s), as requested
  • Advise Executive Board, as requested

Board of Trustees

Consists of six members, three (3) of them elected on alternate years. Its membership consists of those individuals who have previously served in the governing bodies of the organization such as the Executive Board, Audit Committee, founding members and past presidents. The Board of Trustees shall elect a chairman, vice chairman and a secretary.

  • This board will call its own meetings and will also meet at the request of the Executive Board and Audit Committee and at least three other members of the Board of Trustees, sending out pertinent information as to the time, date and place of meetings
  • Have the authority to oust members from the Association if and when it is due to actions not complying with requirements of the by-laws and also actions of a dissident or divisive nature. It is mandatory that before such action is taken the member in question be asked to send in a written report on his/her behalf. The member who is not satisfied with the decision of the Board of Trustees may appeal to the General Assembly.
  • Bring in unbinding requests to the Executive Board and Audit Committee.
  • Taking necessary steps implementing the requirements of Article 24, calling a special meeting of the general membership.
  • Study and reach decisions on matters brought to their attention by the General Assembly and the Executive Board.
