The Long Journey

We thank all who attended this movie screening and hope everyone had a great time. This docu-drama tells about the migration from Anatolia to America, known as the ‘Land of Opportunities’, in the early 1900s. Director Mesut Gengeç traces his two grandfathers who migrated to America. He witnessed all the addresses of the journey from Anatolia to America. The scenes were shot in Turkey and 15 different locations in the USA (Elazığ, Manisa, Bingol, Kayseri, Cappadocia, Istanbul, Foça, New York, Boston, Cleveland, Salem …) and important scenes were dramatized with famous actors like Ali Sürmeli and Rıza Akın. In the documentary, interviews with Turkish and American historians as well as families of immigrants to America draw attention.

Following the screening of this 70-min movie, there was a lively Q&A session with the director Mesut Gengeç who joined the conversation from Turkey. A recording of the Q&A session can be viewed here.
