Handan Ege
I was born in Turkey, graduated from medical school in Istanbul, and practiced as an ophthalmologist for almost 25 years. When we moved to the United States, I retired and decided to take care of my two daughters in this new country while my husband continued his practice as a radiologist. He encouraged me to delve back into work whenever I wanted. I raised my children and made sure to involve them in the Turkish-American community from the beginning. I wanted them to become bi-cultural and never forget their own country. In the meantime, my husband developed lung cancer and passed away after a four-year battle. Following our grief, I decided to honor his advice and finally became a realtor. Even though I had always been involved in TACAM as a volunteer, I felt it was my time to represent and serve our community. I am proud of being part of this amazing board in TACAM.
