Turkish American Cultural Association of Michigan

“LebFest 2008” Lebanese Festival

The second annual Lebanese Festival was held on August 1-2, 2008 this year in Downtown Birmingham at Shain Park. The festival aimed to celebrate heritage, culture and art through Lebanese cuisine, live entertainment and cultural displays. It took place on August 1st and 2nd.

The event was an absolute success – it was very well organized and had constant entertainment both days. Plus, there must have been thousands of people who visited the festival over the two days duration. We really enjoyed the music, food and entertainment. Lebfest 2008 organizers were also kind enough to offer a booth to Turkish community to represent and introduce our culture, so TACAM had a display table throughout the event. As stated in TACAM by-laws, one of our major goals is to promote and foster Turkish culture in the State of Michigan, therefore this was a great opportunity for us to raise awareness of Turkey and our organization – we met plenty of friendly people who stopped by to talk to us about Turkey and to get information. We sure were busy talking to our visitors!

As this weekend’s Lebfest 2008 is over, we would like to take a moment to thank Mrs. Azize Sargin, Ms. Nurten Ural, Mr. Marcus Mann, Mrs. Mine Ozalp and Mrs. Ilkim Erturk, who helped TACAM to establish a stand, gather the necessary presentation materials and contribute to item sales as well as to our Board members who spent significant amount of personal time at the stand during the weekend. Special thanks to John Akouri, Chairman of Lebfest 2008 organization, for including us at the Festival and congratulations for this wonderful event!
